Questions we are asked about this
Why did my outlet stop working when the breaker isn't tripped?
The most common reason is a tripped GFCI outlet elsewhere on the same circuit. The next most common is a failed connection at that outlet or at the one before it in the chain.
Why does my GFCI keep tripping?
It is detecting current leaking to ground, often from moisture or a faulty appliance or fixture downstream. An old, worn GFCI can also trip without a real fault.
My GFCI won't reset. What should I do?
Check the breaker first, since a GFCI with no power will not reset. If the breaker is on, the GFCI may have failed or may still be sensing a fault, and it should be checked.
Is a warm outlet dangerous?
An outlet should not be noticeably warm. Heat usually means a loose or worn connection. Stop using it and have it inspected, especially if you see discoloration or smell burning.
Can you replace two-prong outlets?
Yes. Older two-prong outlets often have no ground wire behind them, so we check what is there and explain the right way to update them, which may include GFCI protection.
Can you add USB or weather-resistant outlets while you are there?
Yes. While repairing an outlet we can replace it with a USB outlet indoors or a weather-resistant GFCI outlet outdoors, as long as the box and circuit suit it.
Do you offer same-day outlet repair?
Yes, in Pinecrest, Coconut Grove, South Miami and Miami Beach when scheduling permits. Call (305) 359-7312.
