Questions we are asked about this
Why does my breaker keep tripping?
Usually one of four things: too much load on the circuit, a short circuit, a ground fault, or a breaker that is wearing out. The pattern helps: tripping when one appliance runs points to overload, while tripping instantly on reset points to a short.
Is it safe to keep resetting a breaker?
Resetting once to see whether it holds is reasonable. Resetting repeatedly is not, because each trip is the breaker interrupting a fault. If it trips again right away, leave it off and have the circuit checked.
Can I just install a bigger breaker?
No. The breaker is sized to protect the wire. A larger breaker lets the wire overheat before anything trips, which is a fire risk. The fix is to reduce the load or add a circuit.
My breaker won't reset at all. What does that mean?
Either there is still a fault on the circuit, so the breaker trips the moment it closes, or the breaker has failed mechanically. Both need an electrician to diagnose.
Do you replace individual breakers?
Yes. We replace damaged or worn breakers with breakers listed for your panel, and we check the connection and the bus at the same time, since those are often where the damage started.
Do you offer same-day breaker repair?
Yes, in Pinecrest, Coconut Grove, South Miami and Miami Beach when scheduling permits. Call (305) 359-7312 and we will tell you the earliest time we have.
