Hypower is headquartered at 5913 NW 31st Avenue in Fort Lauderdale and says it was founded in 1991. It describes itself as a general, electrical and utility contractor for commercial, industrial and institutional clients, listing electrical construction, power infrastructure, telecommunications and fiber, and airfield lighting among its services. The state license record lists Hypower, LLC as an active electrical contractor.
Best for: large Broward construction programs: institutional buildings, infrastructure and major developments.
Worth knowing: smaller tenant spaces and homes fall outside the kind of work its site describes.
7. Facility Solutions Group (FSG)
FSG is a national commercial electrical and lighting contractor whose South Florida page lists an office at 10388 W State Road 84 in Davie and names Broward and Miami-Dade counties in its service area. It shows Florida electrical license EC-0001073 and lists electrical construction, lighting retrofits, EV charging installation, building controls, signage and technology integration.
Best for: retailers, schools, healthcare groups and other owners with many buildings who want one national vendor.
Worth knowing: FSG presents itself as a commercial contractor, so residential jobs are unlikely to be a fit.
How to choose an electrical contractor in Broward County
- Check the license. Search the company on myfloridalicense.com. Confirm the license is active and the name matches the contract.
- Know which building department you are in. Fort Lauderdale, Hollywood, Pembroke Pines, Davie and the other Broward cities each run their own permitting. Unincorporated areas go through Broward County. A contractor who works in your city regularly will know its review and inspection process.
- Remember that Broward is in the High-Velocity Hurricane Zone. The Florida Building Code applies its HVHZ requirements to Broward and Miami-Dade only. That affects exterior equipment such as generators, disconnects, EV chargers and meter equipment, and how they are anchored and approved.
- Plan for salt and water. East of US-1, salt air shortens the life of exterior fittings and fasteners. Waterfront work, from docks to pool equipment, needs a contractor who chooses materials for it.
- Understand owner-builder permits. Homeowners can pull a permit for their own single-family home under the owner-builder exemption in section 489.103, Florida Statutes, but they take on the contractor's responsibilities. Most people are better off letting a licensed contractor pull it.
