Broward administers the code through its own board
Every county in Florida enforces the Florida Building Code. Broward is the only one that does it like this: the county's Board of Rules and Appeals certifies each municipal building department in the county, issues countywide amendments, and hears formal interpretations when the meaning of a code section is disputed. It is a genuine layer of local administration rather than a formality.
Electrical review is done by an electrical inspector
Because of that board, Broward does not treat inspection as a multi-discipline job. Building departments in the county have separately certified inspectors per discipline, so electrical plan review and electrical inspection are handled by a certified chief electrical inspector rather than by a generalist official signing off on everything. For anything beyond a simple like-for-like replacement, that tends to mean the questions asked at review are electrical questions, and it is worth having the work documented accordingly. The hurricane-zone rules apply here too
Broward sits inside the High-Velocity Hurricane Zone alongside Miami-Dade, so the same raised standard applies to outdoor and envelope-penetrating work: service equipment, meter enclosures, disconnects and standby generator installations are held to wind-resistance and anchoring requirements that do not apply north of the county line. A generator set on a pad is the case where this is most visible, because the pad and its anchoring are assessed as well as the electrical connection.
Lot size changes the electrical problem
Broward runs from dense coastal blocks to the large-lot communities in the west, and the work follows the land. On acreage in Southwest Ranches, Parkland and parts of Davie the recurring problems are long underground runs to detached structures, voltage drop over those distances, well and irrigation pump circuits, and panels in outbuildings that were extended piecemeal. Closer to the coast the stock is older and denser, and capacity is usually the constraint instead.
