Electrical emergencies rarely happen at a convenient time. A breaker that will not reset on a Saturday night, a burning smell from an outlet, water coming through the ceiling over the panel after a storm: these are the calls where you need an answer quickly and you do not have time to research contractors. This list is meant to be read before that happens, so you already know who to call in Miami-Dade and, just as important, when the first call should be 911 or FPL instead of an electrician.
First: is it an electrician, 911 or FPL?
Call 911 first if there is fire, smoke you cannot trace, or someone has been shocked and is hurt. The Red Cross advice for any fire is to get out, stay out and call 911 (American Red Cross). If someone is in contact with a live source, do not touch them directly; Cleveland Clinic advises calling 911 immediately and not touching anything electrified, including the person (Cleveland Clinic on electric shock).
Call FPL (and 911 if there is danger) for a downed power line, a damaged pole or transformer, or a problem on the utility side of the meter. FPL says that if you see a downed power line or damaged electrical equipment you should stay far away and immediately call 911 or FPL at 1-800-4OUTAGE (1-800-468-8243), and it warns that flooded and debris-covered areas can hide downed lines (FPL power line safety). FPL also takes reports of dangerous conditions by phone (FPL report a concern).
Call an electrician for problems inside your home or building once no one is in immediate danger: a burning or rubbery smell from an outlet or appliance, sparks from an outlet, outlets that are warm or discolored, a tingle from an appliance, a breaker that will not stay reset, or partial loss of power. NFPA lists these as signs to call a qualified electrician (NFPA electrical safety in the home). If you can safely identify the circuit, switch it off while you wait.
After flooding, stay away from anything electrical that is wet. Ready.gov says not to touch electrical equipment if it is wet or if you are standing in water, and to turn off the electricity only if it is safe to do so (Ready.gov floods). Running a portable generator? Ready.gov says generators and fuel should always be used outdoors and at least 20 feet from windows, doors and attached garages, with working carbon monoxide detectors on every level of the home (Ready.gov power outages). Never plug a generator into a wall outlet to backfeed the house; a proper transfer switch or interlock is the safe way to connect one.

We quote or paraphrase that wording and link the page, and we do not promise response times on anyone's behalf, ourselves included, because how quickly a crew can arrive depends on the hour, the weather and the address. Each company was also checked against at least one independent listing (BBB or Yelp). Where a license number is shown on the company's site we note it; you can confirm any license on the Florida DBPR license search. We did not use ratings, review counts or prices. KRW Electric ranks itself first because we publish the list; the order after that is not a quality ranking.

1. KRW Electric
KRW Electric Company LLC (license EC13012832) is owned by Kyle White, based in Miami Beach, and serves Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties. As its emergency electrician page says, you can reach KRW Electric at any hour for electrical emergencies, and a lot of what sounds alarming can be diagnosed over the phone. Beyond the emergency call, KRW handles troubleshooting, repairs, panel upgrades, generator installation and surge protection, plus commercial service work, and it handles the permit and the inspection on its jobs, which matters when an emergency repair turns into a panel replacement.
KRW Electric is rated 5.0 on Google across 118 reviews. Axel Collazo wrote about an emergency call: "I reached out to Kyle during an electrical emergency on a weekend and he was willing to respond at such an odd hour, he was punctual, professional, effective, and efficient." (read the reviews)
Best for: homes and businesses that want the same licensed contractor for the emergency call and the permanent fix, including storm-related work.
Worth knowing: KRW is based in Miami Beach, so describe the problem and the address when you call and it will tell you honestly whether it can wait.
2. Mister Sparky of Miami
Mister Sparky of Miami is the local location of the national franchise, based on SW 114th Place, and shows license EC13008384 on its Miami page. Its emergency repairs page invites customers to call at any time and refers to its electricians as available at any hour for emergencies. Services listed include panels, breakers, outlets, lighting and EV chargers.
Best for: residential emergencies in South Dade and Kendall.
Worth knowing: its focus is residential service rather than commercial buildings.
3. WireMasters Electric
WireMasters Electric is based on SW 129th Terrace in Miami and also operates as Miami Electric Masters. Its emergency electrician page advertises emergency service at any hour, and its services include power restoration, wiring, panels, breakers and backup generators, mostly for homes.
Best for: homeowners in Kendall, Pinecrest and Coral Gables.
Worth knowing: we did not find a license number on its site, so look it up on the DBPR search.
4. Miami Electric Wizards
Miami Electric Wizards, Inc. lists offices in Kendall and Cutler Bay and shows license ER 13014729 on its homepage, which advertises emergency service. It lists panels, circuits, lighting, EV chargers and appliance wiring for homes and businesses.
Best for: South Dade, from Palmetto Bay and Cutler Bay south.
Worth knowing: its ER license is a local registration rather than a statewide EC license; the DBPR search shows where it applies.
5. Light Speed Electric
Light Speed Electric, Corp. is based on SW 140th Street in Miami and shows license EC13010664 on its homepage, which advertises emergency repairs at any hour, every day of the week. It lists residential and commercial service and repair, upgrades, EV charging and transfer switches.
Best for: homes and small businesses in West Kendall and southwest Miami-Dade.
Worth knowing: transfer switch work makes it a reasonable call if a generator hookup is part of the problem.
6. Xmart Power Electric
Xmart Power Electric LLC is listed in Coral Gables. Its emergency services page says it serves homes and businesses at any time, day or night. Alongside emergency repair, panels and wiring, it lists smart-home work, network cabling and security cameras.
Best for: Coral Gables, Doral and central Miami, especially where low-voltage systems are involved.
Worth knowing: confirm its license on the DBPR search, since the number is not shown on every page of its site.
7. Trusted Electrical Solutions
Trusted Electrical Solutions says on its electrical emergencies page that its emergency electricians are available at any hour, including nights, weekends and holidays. Its Miami page shows license EC13008917, and its services include emergency diagnostics, breakers and panels, generators, EV chargers and code inspections for homes and businesses.
Best for: Doral, Brickell and central Miami.
Worth knowing: its site does not give a street address, so ask where the crew is dispatched from.
How to choose an emergency electrician
- Pick one before you need one. Save the number of a licensed contractor now. In a real emergency you will not want to compare websites.
- Check the license. Search the company on the DBPR license search. Storms bring out unlicensed operators, and Florida law requires a permit for most repairs beyond the emergency make-safe.
- Describe the problem clearly. What you see, hear or smell, what was running when it started, and whether anything is wet. A good electrician can often tell you on the phone whether it is safe to wait.
- Separate the make-safe from the repair. The emergency visit should make the situation safe. A panel replacement, rewiring or generator installation after a storm should be permitted and inspected, and it is fine to take a day to review the scope.
- Plan for hurricane season. The Atlantic season runs June 1 to November 30 (National Hurricane Center). Surge protection, a properly installed transfer switch or a standby generator reduce the chance of an emergency call. Our storm readiness page lists what to check.
FAQ
What counts as an electrical emergency?
A burning smell with no obvious source, smoke, sparking, a shock from an appliance or fixture, a warm or discolored panel, exposed or damaged conductors, anything electrical that has been under water, or a breaker that will not stay reset. If there is fire or someone is hurt, call 911 first.
Should I call FPL or an electrician when the power goes out?
If your neighbors are out too, it is almost certainly an FPL outage; report it to FPL at 1-800-4OUTAGE (FPL). If only your home or part of it is out, check your breakers, and if the problem continues, call an electrician.
Is it safe to reset a breaker that keeps tripping?
Resetting it once is reasonable. If it trips again, leave it off; it is reporting a fault. Our guide on why a breaker trips again when you reset it explains the usual causes.
Can I use my electrical system after a flood?
Not until it has been checked. Ready.gov warns against touching wet electrical equipment (Ready.gov), and water inside a panel is not always visible from the outside.
